Some days are just unforgettable, and my recent trip to New York City was one of those days. From stepping into the Nasdaq studios to attending the ForbesBLK interviews in honor of Black Business Month, I was immersed in an environment where diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) weren’t just talked about—they were alive, driving every conversation and connection.
The experience was truly special. Moderated by the one and only Jabari Young, we had the chance to hear from two powerhouse figures, Keith Dawkins, President of the Harlem Globetrotters, and Brandon Copeland, a former NFL player who’s making waves as an entrepreneur and financial literacy advocate.
Keith Dawkins: Leading with Vision
Keith Dawkins, at the helm of the Harlem Globetrotters, spoke passionately about the future of sports entertainment. Hearing him talk about blending tradition with innovation to push the iconic team forward was nothing short of inspiring. Even more exciting? One of my very own questions was selected for him to answer during the event! You can imagine my excitement—stay tuned for footage of that moment.
Brandon Copeland: From NFL Star to Entrepreneur
Then came Brandon Copeland, who shared his incredible journey from NFL player to entrepreneur and advocate for financial literacy. His transition into the business world is inspiring, but what struck me most was his genuine desire to empower others. After the event, he took the time to chat with us, sharing more insights into his mission and offering real advice on financial growth.
Connections That Matter
Events like these aren’t just about the panels and the speakers—they’re about the people you meet and the connections you build. Big shoutout to my fellow ForbesBLK members: Ayisha Miracle Mendez (Community Manager), Youmie Jean Francois, Britney Crowell, and Nikki Adebiyi. The energy and support from everyone was incredible, and I left feeling both inspired and deeply connected to this growing community!
Looking Forward: What’s Next for The CEO Chick Network
As much as I loved the day, it was also a reminder of the work we’re doing and the importance of pushing forward with DEI at the core. Now, all eyes are on our first unisex event for The CEO Chick Network, featuring some amazing collaborators like 1MBB Shopify, ECOMSPACES, and ForbesBLK.
